Track for 6-Hour race announced

The New Plymouth Mountain Bikers are stoked to announce the trail for the upcoming 6-Hour Teams cross-country race, 6 December at the Lake Mangamahoe Trails:
  1. Start at gravel car park
  2. Start loop down gravel towards river before turning left into Kiwi Trail (this short section is for the start lap only, and is to spread the riders out going into the singletrack).
  3. Follow Kiwi Trail to the main gravel road (Shane and Craig have created a special treat at this point), before rejoining the Kiwi Trail and following back to Kea Trail.
  4. Turn left off the Kea Trail into Hudson’s Alley.
  5. Exit of Hudson’s onto the gravel road and turn right into the first 4wd track.
  6. Turn right into Blue Duck and into the Hihi Trail.
  7. Near the end of the Hihi, turn right into the Club Link Trail which joins back into the Kea Trail.
  8. Follow the rest of the Kea Trail and cross the gravel road back into the end of the Kiwi Trail.
  9. Change riders and repeat.
The course is approx 6.5km long.

6-Hour Race: Entry Form

Entry forms for the NPMTB 6-Hour race on Sunday 6 December are now available. Click on the image below to download and print or pick up from any of Taranaki's bike shops. Entry can be completed and paid for on the day. Huge thanks to race sponsors and supporters AvantiPlus Mitchell cycles, Cycle Inn, Fuji Zerox, 02 Project and Raceway Cycles.

It's a Sign!

With all the new trailbuilding going down at Mangamahoe in recent months, some signage to get people to all the new trails was long overdue.

Fortunately that's been rectified with some flash new temporary signage created by Craig with printing support from Fuji Xerox NP.

Signs indicate the trail names, directional info and trail grading. Read signs backwards for hidden message (like the course for the 6-hour race, perhaps)...

Yes. Oh yes.

It's fair to say that any work party where guys turn up with a chainsaw and a nail gun is a good work party. As you'll see from the pics yesterday's one was particularly good. Huge thanks to all those that turned up and pitched in, and the trails are looking super-sweet for both the 6-Hour race on 6 December, and a solid summer of riding. Bring it on...

Bridge to Somewhere

More digging action took place at Mangamahoe over the weekend, and we now have some very very sweet looking trail feeding the new bridge.

To find out just where the bridge is, take a ride and see if you can find it...

As usual, top work Craig and Shane.

The return of the 3-HOUR RACE

New Plymouth Mountain Bikers announce the second in their XC Teams Race series: 3-Hours Part 2, at Colson Road on 18 October.

The format is similar to the recent Mangamahoe Race, with the added bonus of proper toilets from the good folks at the New Plymouth SPCA, more fresh singletrack hand-crafted by trail pixies, and more great spot prizes from O2 Project.

Access is down the SPCA drive (please bring a donation or some puppy or kitty food), with parking there if fine or at the road if wet.
