NPMTB head to day Night Thriller

The New Plymouth Mountain Bikers will be entering the Day Night Thriller in Taupo on 12 September.

The track will include fast open park grounds, 'awesome' downhill, pine needle covered forest tracks, challenging single tracks and magnificent scenery including the mighty Waikato River.

Club members are invited to take part in either the 6 hour or 12 hour team events, or as an associated solo if they're that way inclined. Transport and accommodation will be organised by the club's Craig and Sandra, and cost will depend on numbers.

We're aiming for the event to be primarily social - a great opportunity to get to know other members of the club.

If you're keen then register your interest by emailing Sandra (sandrawunder[at]yahoo.de) by 18 July.

Logging in Mangamahoe

Logging has commenced in the middle section of Lake Mangamahoe, and will continue for the next month. Areas being logged are taped off and sign posted - these are around the former Samurai Set and Dress Circle trails. Riders and other forest users are requested not to enter these sites whilst logging is underway due to safety issues.

But all is not lost - the New Plymouth District Council's LTCCP process awarded the Club $5,000 to reinstate mountain bike trails in this area. Opportunities to be involved in this will be posted on the site in the near future.

Mangamahoe Trail Update

The mid section of the Lake Mangamahoe Forest is due to be logged from Monday 8 June onwards, but all is not lost. A number of new trails have been developed by NPMTB trail builders Shane and Craig in the Southern end of the forest to keep riders occupied until the trail network can be reinstated in the logged area.

The map below shows the location and names of these new or redeveloped trails. Clicking on the map should enlarge it to A4 size for printing. Information on dig days to establish the new trails in the middle part of the forest will be posted on this site and in the Quick Release newsletter that's sent out to club members.
